Isaiah 3:1-5:30 | PS 53:1-6 | Prov 22:28-29 | 2 Cor 11:1-15
Even the most veiled look at the state of our nation must make you realize that we are on the brink of judgment by God. As we go through the prophets, now in Isaiah, do we deem ourselves better than Judah and Israel? Are we better than Greece or Rome? For that matter are we better than Sodom or Gomorrah? The answer is no! They were all judged, after becoming morally corrupt from within. So we can focus on which colleges our children will go to, or if we are invested properly for retirement. More superficial than that, how many just can’t wait until the beginning of football season. When, not if, God brings judgment upon our debased country, all of these things which seem so important will become utterly useless. Our only hope is in Jesus Christ and turning others to Him. His morals are the only real, authentic morals, as stated clearly in Scripture, not manipulated by those who want to contort His words.
Let’s see how different we are from Judah who was warned by God through Isaiah. We read in Isaiah 3:4-5, “I will give children to be their princes, And babes shall rule over them. The people will be oppressed, Every one by another and every one by his neighbor; The child will be insolent toward the elder, And the base toward the honorable.” Our children are not gifted and talented, brilliant, etc. They are either godly or lost. Yet, empowered and pumped up without knowledge or wisdom they flood our streets and cities and march for one cause or another, loot, injure, kill, and get justified and elevated by the media. We read in 3:9, “The look on their countenance witnesses against them, And they declare their sin as Sodom; They do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves.” We in the U.S. sin brazenly. We are the largest users of child pornography, we have drag queens teaching in our schools, we elevate sexuality that God forbids, drug use is in the open. Just take a look at Tik Tok for a glimpse of how base we are. When people are proud of their perverse, immoral behavior instead of being ashamed, God’s judgment can’t be far behind. The prophet then turns to a long segment on the women of that society, beginning in 3:16, “Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, And walk with outstretched necks And wanton eyes, Walking and mincing as they go, Making a jingling with their feet.” It has been said a woman’s wardrobe is a barometer of a society. Drawing attention to themselves, flaunting their bodies, bikinis which cover nothing, yoga pants which hide nothing, outfits which show more and more encourages further moral degradation.
Isaiah goes on to say in 5:20-21, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!” Please seriously read the words in Isaiah, both the warnings and the judgments (also the many beautiful prophecies concerning Jesus). Please take them to heart and let the prophet’s words open your eyes to our reality in our nation, in our world now. History is clear on the judgment of all these former nations and empires. History will one day reveal how our nation sinned and was judged, and it will all be clear and fair in retrospect. It’s just hard to see as you are going through it. We, in Christ have nothing to fear, for eternity with Him is where we will be. But what of all the others? How can we remain silent at such a time as this?
