1 Chron 1:1-2:17 | PS 3:1-8 | Prov 18:14-15 | Acts 23:11-35
The purpose of the Bible, in fact what should be the purpose of messages given by pastors at the church, should not be to entertain, but to be accurate and lead people straight to Jesus. The genealogies, as those in the beginning chapters of 1 Chronicles are just that. A long list of names which mean very little to most of us. These names are not meant to be memorized. They represent an authentic and at that time reproducible lineage from Adam. Now we know from Scripture that the Messiah would have to come through the lineage of Abraham to Judah to David. This portion of Scripture does this with complete accuracy. In fact. if there were mistakes, they would have been corrected by family members at the time of this writing. As we proceed to Luke 3, the lineage continues through the biological mother of Jesus, Mary. Realize that the temple, and all of its genealogies were destroyed when the temple was destroyed for the second time in AD 70, by the Romans. Again, is this interesting? Does this list seem exciting? You decide. But realize, this list of names can be trusted. For this and for a multitude of other reasons you can place your trust in Jesus as Messiah. In a world which has no seeming respect for truth, absolute truth does really exist, and Jesus is truth.
