Jeremiah 8:4-11:23
What does a physician do when he no longer trusts the leaders in his field, the researchers presuming to be objective or the editors of the journals who are supposedly unbiased? Such is the position I now find myself in. Do I think I have become overly cynical? No. Not that I ever worshiped the science or the thought leaders but I often deferred to them. This recent pandemic has shown me that nothing is as it seems. With this I now seek God’s guidance and discernment more than the so-called experts. I avoid quoting as much, since data on so many fronts are tainted. What God has effectively done for me is eliminated a god (small g) for me. What are your gods? You might not feel comfortable calling them that, but please don’t fool yourself, they are there. Whatever you trust in, quote, seek for guidance is your god. It can be the thought leaders in your field, those in academia, those in media and social media, political figures or parties, even family members. There is nothing wrong with respecting and listening to others, but beware when, if you are willing to honestly admit, that your hope and attention lies more with them than the Only One True God.
This is truth in Jeremiah 10:6-7, “Inasmuch as there is none like You, O Lord (You are great, and Your name is great in might), Who would not fear you, O King of the nations? For this is your rightful due. For among all the wise men of the nations, And in all their kingdoms, There is none like You.” Surrounding this great truth, God through the prophet Jeremiah explains how the people have forsaken God, and have chosen to worship anything and anyone else. Judah was eventually judged for their spiritual idolatry.
People like to ponder about the timing of the Rapture, or the beginning of the End of Days. But we have not been given this, no matter how one dissects the Word. After it transpires, it will all make sense to those remaining. But what we do know as our nation and our world is neck deep, in fact the water is already over our head filled with spiritual adultery. Our nation and world is ripe for judgment. Again the times are in God’s hands. Even the most cursory glance at what those nations and empires who fell before us were guilty of and what we are now guilty of has to make this apparent. So what are those of us to do who actually worship God and have accepted Jesus as their King? We should not and can not shut up about Him at such a time as this. Since we don’t know the exact timing, let’s be about Him today. His Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 was not a Great Suggestion. We were not simply told to say a word here or there, but disciple others. So, please pause and ask if you have allowed anything or anyone to usurp your seeking of God. If so, stop now. After this, think of someone, anyone and plant a seed today.
