Deuteronomy 31:30-32:52; Ps 90
Follow the science! That seems to be the statement repeated by those who deem themselves intelligent and on the right side of issues to those they deem ignorant. A few weeks ago I put forth a few statements comparing what following the science means concerning the current response to the virus, and showed how it contradicts what is deemed essential to scientific theory. But this false notion that science is somehow objective extends to many other issues. Statements are made by medical experts and quoted by others which are based simply on opinion, nothing else. Since the beginning of time, conception was always accepted as being the moment that sperm and egg combine. But in the year 2000, this conception was redefined as the moment of implantation, which occurs days later. Why does this matter? It allows emergency contraception to be administered outside the boundaries of defined abortion, allowable now over the counter. The American College of Ob/Gyn calls for the cease and repeal to any barriers to abortion including: bans on abortion at arbitrary gestational ages (allowing abortion at any time in pregnancy), requirements for mandatory counseling, ultrasound requirements, parental involvement, etc. But I would state that we have a choice, either we believe that science overrules the things of God, or God defines science. In Jeremiah 1:5, we read, "I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” In Psalm 139:13-16, we read, "You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed." So, following the science would advocate for eliminating Jeremiah and David at any time before birth. God knew them as distinct individuals before they were born. It's up to you, do you want to "follow the science", or follow God.
We read in the Song of Moses in Deuteronomy 32:3-4, "I will proclaim the name of the Lord; how glorious is our God! He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!" Since God is indeed perfect, we should accept that His Word is final. God trumps science. God trumps academia. God trumps political experts, tech leaders, and media stars. We read further in 32:5-6, "“But they have acted corruptly toward him; when they act so perversely, are they really his children? They are a deceitful and twisted generation. Is this the way you repay the Lord, you foolish and senseless people? Isn’t he your Father who created you? Has he not made you and established you?" As this proceeds further, we come to 32:15, "“But Israel soon became fat and unruly; the people grew heavy, plump, and stuffed! Then they abandoned the God who had made them; they made light of the Rock of their salvation." Do we who are created have the right to contradict the Creator? We read further in 32:19-20, "“The Lord saw this and drew back, provoked to anger by his own sons and daughters. He said, ‘I will abandon them; then see what becomes of them. For they are a twisted generation, children without integrity...I will weaken them with famine, burning fever, and deadly disease..."
We can continue to exert our opinions. We can continue to arrogantly put forth our ideas as superior to those of the Creator. We can continue to exalt our science, our intelligence, our evolved states. But God will allow us to reap the consequences of this independence and arrogance. He will not override our free will in which we speak forth in ignorance. Since I am a pro-life obstetrician, these same "experts" and the organization that supposedly represents me, has labeled me in their ethical opinion as unethical since I will not in any way participate in abortion. Also, this same group of experts have condemned pregnancy crisis centers and groups like the Bridge Women's Center, of which I serve as Medical Director, as instruments of spreading false information and diverting people from their access to timely abortion. Again I will ask, who determines what is right, the created or the Creator? You decide. But you must realize that when you "follow the science", and when science and God disagree, you are making a decision to not follow God.
