History of Calvary ChapelHistory of Calvary Chapel

It all started when an associate pastor from Calvary Chapel of West Covina, CA (now Calvary Chapel Golden Springs) responded to a letter from New Jersey requesting a Calvary Chapel-type, Bible teaching fellowship in Central New Jersey area. Once settled in the Garden State, Lloyd and Karen Pulley held a small Bible study on Thursday nights. Before long, this small group began meeting each Sunday morning as well.

By the end of 1984, the fellowship had grown to fifty people and moved to an elementary school gymnasium. By 1986, 150 people moved into the Carl Sandburg School auditorium, and by 1992, the church grew to 700 adults and approximately 300 children requiring multiple services. Now ministering to the needs of a ever-growing congregation, as well as the NY/NJ metropolitan area through Bridging the Gap (the radio and television teaching ministry of Calvary Chapel Old Bridge), we thank the Lord for faithfully providing us an opportunity to minister to so many people.
