In order to serve you we would like to advise you about the kind of counseling that you will receive from the staff of Calvary Chapel Old Bridge. It is our desire to help you apply the Bible and its principles to your life through prayer and the study of the Word of God. Our goal is to help you build a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which ultimately is the best way we can help you solve your problems.
What is biblical counseling?
Biblical counseling is a ministry committed to the focused and specific application of God’s Word to the life of an individual. It ministers with the recognition that God’s Word needs to be cultivated in our hearts; and that it is the Word of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, that truly changes people.
-
We are taught in Romans 12:2 “do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
-
We are encouraged in Psalm 147:3 to understand that, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
-
We are exhorted in Romans 15:14 “Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.”
Biblical counseling and the biblical counseling ministry is the natural outflow of these truths. It focuses on an individual’s heart before, and relationship with, God — without minimizing someone’s circumstances and experiences or compromising the Truth of God’s Word.
The members of the pastoral staff and other persons within the church that serve as lay counselors are not psychologists or licensed mental health professionals. We cannot provide you with assistance in the treatment of certain mental, emotional, or behavioral problems. If you believe that you require the assistance of a professional counseling service, or you are presently under the care of a psychologist, psychiatrist, or other licensed mental health professional we encourage you to seek such help. If you are seeing such a professional, we will nevertheless try to encourage you and offer supplemental biblical discipleship.
If you would like to receive biblical counseling please fill out the
Counseling Request Form and we will contact you to set up an appointment.

Biblical Counselor’s Training
Our purpose in everything is to win a person to Jesus Christ, disciple a person in Jesus Christ, and send a person for Jesus Christ. We are all called to be Christ’s ambassadors in a hurting world. Colossians 3:16-17 says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Calvary Chapel Old Bridge is a place that provides training for people who want to be equipped as biblical counselors. If you are interested in being equipped as a lay biblical counselor, please sign up for our biblical counseling class.
