Thoughts on Same Sex Marriage

Polls indicate that most Americans believe marriage is defined as being between one man and one woman. But despite what they profess, many in our nation are being influenced by a minority who feel their rights are being denied under the current laws. However, the popular mentality that says we need to help those who are being wronged, neglects to take into account the reason why government began regulating marriage in the first place.

It's really simple. Marriage benefits society. Countless studies over the years have shown that the traditional family unit, consisting of a mother and father raising children in the home, has had a stabilizing impact on our nation. This in turn reduces crime and drug use, and a whole host of other problems, and saves the government billions of dollars in the long run. Can the same be said of same sex households?

I believe that politicians, who dare to tinker with a proven system that was established by God and has been in place for 6,000 years of human history, are very shortsighted. Why change the whole system simply out of a misguided attempt to make a small minority feel better. That is not fair to the rest of us. However there is a way to make this completely equitable to everyone. Any group, who wants to share in the governmental benefits that have been given to those who are married, ought to have the burden of proof on them to show how their chosen lifestyle enhances our society. After all, marriage did not get any breaks in this nation until studies showed that marriage brought tangible benefits to the whole society. Why should we not now demand the same proof of other unions before bestowing benefits on them?

Heavenly Citizenship - by Pastor Lloyd Pulley

As Christians we have dual citizenship. We are citizens of this world, and we are also citizens of heaven. As citizens of this world, the Bible instructs us to pray for our leaders, submit ourselves to the governing authorities, and obey the laws of the land. However, as citizens of heaven we have a higher, eternal allegiance. Because our kingdom is not of this world, we ought to live with the things of God as our primary focus. The Lord will return one day, and our Heavenly citizenship should reflect that reality in the way we live our daily lives. Join Pastor Lloyd and learn what it means to be a faithful citizen in this world, while eagerly awaiting the glorious return of our King.
